Getting Started With Summer Fitness Goals

Right around New Years and summer are the two times I see the most people approach me with setting new fitness or health goals. Here is how I would set myself up to reach those goals this summer...
First, assess where you are at now. What is your baseline? Maybe you are only walking to reach your step goal right now. Or maybe, you've been lifting regularly and have a solid foundation you're looking to build on. Just think about what you're starting with so you can set a realistic goal of where you want to be by the end of the summer.
What is your goal/are your goals? Is it body composition related (lose fat/gain muscle)? Is it a specific fitness target like running a 5k? Or is it just increase your movement and improve your nutrition so you have more energy to keep up with your kids? Set a specific goal that you think you can accomplish during this time frame.
Now, make a plan of action for how to reach this goal. Like with SPECIFIC steps. Don't just say "eat healthier" and "move more" because it will make it harder to track your progress and actually reach your goal. Set goals like - get at least 8,000 steps/day; hit your protein goal; get 7 hours of sleep a night; strength train twice per week. Something that you can say, yes, I did that this week, or no, I did not.
Last, follow through on your plan and track your progress! The keeping track of progress part is huge, not JUST by tracking your scale weight every day. Take before pictures and then take pictures every week or two and compare. Keep a habit tracker and check off how many times you are able to implement the steps of your plan so you can actually see all the great steps you're taking towards your goal. Notice your energy levels, how your clothes fit, how you're sleeping. All of these things can show that you're making progress and can keep you on track towards your goals!
If you need help with the goal setting, the making a plan, or the accountability towards following that plan piece just send me a message!
